I’m back from a wonderful relaxing trip to Pennsylvania. We visited many interesting places, the last of which was the site of the crash of Flight 93 near Shanksville, Pa., during the 9-11 terrorist attack on our country. A very beautiful and solemn National Memorial has been built on the site where 40 people died.
I was glad to be back to enjoy our guest speaker at the Wednesday morning women’s coffee group. Maria, from Freedom Home Health, talked to our group about skin care for seniors and gave us a wonderful revue of the services offered by their company. The company does “in home” medical care and has local offices in both Boone and Ankeny. (You can pick up further information by stopping at the Center.)
I gave you a heads up several weeks ago, but now it is time for Alren Twedt to be our program speaker on potluck day next Monday, the 10th at 11:30. His book traces emigrants’ migration from hillside farms along fjords in southwest Norway to the prairie of northern Illinois and westward to Iowa. He describes what early frontier life was like for 97 families living in log cabins and dugouts on the virgin prairie of Story County and follows the experiences of 46 central Iowa Norwegians who volunteered for the Civil War.
If you have never attended our potluck before we would welcome you to attend this one to enjoy great home cooking and this very interesting program.
We will also be getting our group together on Thursday, the 13th, to play Canasta.
