At the June 5 Nevada Kiwanis meeting, Judy Chance introduced Trish O’Brien Edwards. Trish is the marketing director for Habitat for Humanity. Trish told the club that so far, four houses have been built in Nevada. Trish also described some of the criteria for qualifying for a home. Applicants must show need, have a good credit rating and perform 450 hours of community service, including helping with the building of their home and others. Thanks, Judy and Trish for a great program!
President Jack O’Leary opened the June 7 meeting of the Nevada Rotary Club. Fred Danforth was a visiting Rotarian. Guests present were Bob and Julie Pattinson from England, Jessica Henry, Katie Martinez, Larry Frevert, Luke and Caleb Biensen. The group sang the “Welcome Song” to the visitors.
Lynn Scarlett reminded the club to bring new and gently used books by July 5. She reminded us that the Chamber golf tournament would be held on June 9. The opening prayer was given by Chris Waddle.
Rich Parker introduced the guest speaker, Story County Attorney Jessica Reynolds. Jessica shared her history as a prosecutor in other counties before coming to Story County in 2008. She has had prior experience in all areas at the office. The Story County Attorney’s office has someone on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. She discussed some of the duties of the office, which include prosecution, legal advice for the county and elected officials, plus community outreach and education.
Ric Martinez closed the meeting by having the group identify movie quotes.
