This week on Thursday, the 8th, we will try our hand at playing Canasta again. I think we had 12 or 16 people play in May, but we would welcome more. Then next week on Monday, the 12th, we will enjoy gathering with friends for our monthly potluck. I will be having a shorter program this month so that we have time for a quick annual meeting. There will be a short business meeting to review the past year’s activities, and we will be electing two new board members. I also want to have time to reshow the 10 minute DVD about how to use our AED (automatic electronic defibrillator). We have been blessed to have one in our building since 2012.

I am going to give you a “heads up” about our potluck program for July and ask you to invite friends, who may have a special interest. Arlen Twedt, from Story City, will be on hand to review his book, “The Central Iowa Norwegians,” which covers their settlement in Story County from 1855-1880. (Watch this column for further details)

On Wednesday, the 14th , THEY will be playing Hand and Foot cards. I say “they,” because Rog and I are planning to take a trip to Pennsylvania to visit my brother for a couple weeks, and I’m sure many games of cards will happen there as well.

I hope you are having a great summer!
