Both the Story County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are investigating an armed robbery that occurred at Maxwell State Bank, 122 Main St., Tuesday morning.

According to Story County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Barry Thomas, authorities received a 911 call from a bank employee and a bank alarm just before 10:30 a.m. Thomas said that two men entered the bank displaying handguns, ordered the employees on the floor, took an undisclosed amount of money, and fled in a vehicle.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the bank employees described the suspects as two black males but indicated the suspects had their faces covered in an apparent attempt to disguise their appearance.

Shortly after deputies arrived on the scene, Thomas said they located the described vehicle unoccupied just south of Maxwell City Park.

Thomas said he believes that the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled the area in a separate vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office said the initial vehicle was impounded for processing.

No injuries were reported in the incident and no patrons in the bank during the incident.

Anyone with information on the bank robbery is encouraged to contact the Story County Sheriff’s Office.
