Book sale this weekend
A Friends of the Library book sale will be held on Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 28 at the Nevada Public Library. Hours on Friday will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stock up on your winter reading materials and find the jigsaw puzzles you want to work on. The sale will feature a large selection of both fiction and nonfiction books.
The Nevada American Legion Auxiliary is having a Windsor Chop Dinner on Oct. 27, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion on Sixth Street. All are welcome to attend, prices are $8/$4! Earnings from the meal help to fund Girls State, veterans and their families, scholarships and our general fund.
Walk for cancer
Walk to fight any type of cancer this Saturday morning with other local cancer survivors and friends and loved ones of cancer victims. A group will meet at the Story County Fairgrounds by the horse arena at 8:45 a.m. Bring a check written out to your favorite cancer charity and join the walk.

Meet Iowa’s Honey Queen
On Wednesday, Nov. 1, area residents are invited to the Nevada Public Library to meet Iowa’s Honey Queen Carly Vannoy. Starting at 6 p.m., Vannoy will present a program for all ages to learn about honey bees, honey and beekeeping. You will learn about how bees make mummies, the color of mystery honey, the strange use of beehives in medieval times and more.
